Derk Cools
Derk Cools, author, was born in 1939 in Den Haag / The Haque, Netherlands. He studied social geography and economics at the University of Utrecht. He was a civil servant with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and traveled professionally to many countries.
In 1994, he retired and moved to the Netherlands Antilles, the island of Curacao. He wrote a book about travekling in Asia and a book about Papua New Guinea

I been involve in various volunteer acts as listed below in the Aruban community by contributed in strategies and researches for Non-profit Foundations such as Sint Nicolaas Foundation for the Arts (SINFA), Foundacion ProCrea of Access Art Gallery, South End Art Foundation of South End Gallery.
Most of my free time are spend sharing with others my Artistic talents and to go on a talent hunt searching for newcomers and guide them toward the broad allies of the art world.
I have contributed in various international. works with art students and freelance lyricist either by technical writing or artistic concepts and investigations concerning Haïti.
Recently investigating "Words, Beats, Dances & Stages' an essay revealing the controversial struggles, Authors, Musicians, Performers, and Artistes endured for safeguarding and elevating the true faces of Haïti's abandoned cultural heritage since the (1915) American invasion till the UN embargo (1992).

Eugènie Herlaar
Eugènie Herlaar, auteur
Eugènie Herlaar is op 10 november 1939 geboren op Curaçao. Toen ze 8 jaar was ging ze met haar ouders naar Nederland en sindsdien woont ze daar. Sinds 1989 komt ze elk jaar naar Curaçao en vaak ook naar de andere eilanden van de Nederlandse Antillen en Aruba.
Schrijven doet Eugènie al haar hele leven over allerlei zaken die haar beroeren, bezighouden, haar aandacht trekken, over dingen die ze ervaart.
Eugènie Herlaar kreeg, in 1965, als journaliste grote bekendheid toen zij, als eerste vrouw, redacteur/verslaggever en vooral ook nieuwslezer werd bij het toenmalige NTS TV-journaal, de voorloper van het huidige NOS journaal.
Tot publiceren van haar werk kwam het pas een aantal jaren geleden.
Toen verscheen haar gedichtenbundel ‘Van alle tijden…’.
De gedichten in de bundel zijn heel aansprekend, direct, hier en daar overdrachtelijk en zetten soms aan tot nadenken. Ze zijn ook heel uiteenlopend van aard, lichtvoetig, maar ook heel serieus; soms rijmend en in strak ritme, dan weer in vrije vorm. Maar altijd, zoals ze zelf zegt, ‘van binnenuit’.
In het voorwoord omschrijft zangeres en woordkunstenares Marie-Cécile Moerdijk het werk als volgt: ‘Eugènie is in staat haar verwondering met ons te delen over dat wat dichtbij komt en waar we aan voorbij zouden zijn gegaan. Ze brengt ontroering teweeg maar schuwt dat niet, noch het kwetsbaar zijn.’
De dichtbundel van Eugènie heeft al diverse 'herdrukken' beleefd.
Dat Eugènie Herlaar gedichten en verhalen schreef was slechts in kleine kring bekend. Met de dichtbundel is die kring nu groter geworden.
Deze maand, oktober 2009, is haar verhalenbundel ‘Van alle kanten…’ verschenen.
Daarin zijn 22 verhalen bijeengebracht. De inspiratie daarvoor is inderdaad van alle kanten gekomen. De verhalen zijn heel verschillend van inhoud, vorm en strekking.
Dat maakt deze bundel zo verrassend. Elke keer krijgt de lezer een ander beeld, een andere invalshoek voorgeschoteld..
Haar journalistieke ervaring is in sommige verhalen herkenbaar in de manier waarop ze situaties beschrijft. In andere verhalen toont ze ons haar ontroering over voorvallen. Ze maakt ons, in een prettige vertelvorm, ook deelgenoot van haar jeugdherinneringen. En die spelen zich uiteraard ook op Curaçao af.
Eugènie ook nog een aantal kinderverhalen geschreven. Misschien dat er ooit nog eens een aparte bundel van verschijnt.
Eugènie Herlaar, storyteller
Eugènie heeft vanaf haar prille jeugd amateurtoneel gespeeld, zowel op Curaçao als in Nederland, tot aan ongeveer 1979.
Vele verhuizingen, andere werkzaamheden en nieuwe uitdagingen (op bestuurlijk en vooral cultureel gebied) zorgden voor gebrek aan tijd voor deze acteerpassie.
De wens om toch op dat terrein nog iets te doen bleef aanwezig. Declamatie van gedichten (zowel van haarzelf als van anderen) was een eerste stap. Tot haar aandacht getrokken werd door het fenomeen 'storytelling'. Eugènie heeft daarvoor een opleiding gevolgd bij dé meesterverteller Paul Middellijn en aansluitend nog workshops bij Anne van Delft.
Toen Eugènie een aantal jaren geleden in contact kwam met het muzikale Duo RosaA (harp en fluit), bleken de vertellingen van Eugènie en de muziek van RosaA wonderwel bij elkaar te passen, zowel qua herkomst als qua sfeer en er was ook een persoonlijke ‘klik’.
Inmiddels heeft Eugènie een flink repertoire opgebouwd van diverse verhalen, legendes, sagen, e.d. vanuit de hele wereld. Deze verhalen hebben vaak een moraal of bevatten een wijze raad en ze kunnen ook heel humoristisch zijn.
Er is ook een speciaal repertoire geschikt voor kinderen.
Ze treedt ermee op, afgewisseld met declamatie van haar eigen gedichten, alleen of met het duo RosaA.

Eugènie ook nog een aantal kinderverhalen geschreven. Misschien dat er ooit nog eens een aparte bundel van verschijnt.
Eugènie Herlaar, storyteller
Eugènie heeft vanaf haar prille jeugd amateurtoneel gespeeld, zowel op Curaçao als in Nederland, tot aan ongeveer 1979.
Vele verhuizingen, andere werkzaamheden en nieuwe uitdagingen (op bestuurlijk en vooral cultureel gebied) zorgden voor gebrek aan tijd voor deze acteerpassie.
De wens om toch op dat terrein nog iets te doen bleef aanwezig. Declamatie van gedichten (zowel van haarzelf als van anderen) was een eerste stap. Tot haar aandacht getrokken werd door het fenomeen 'storytelling'. Eugènie heeft daarvoor een opleiding gevolgd bij dé meesterverteller Paul Middellijn en aansluitend nog workshops bij Anne van Delft.
Toen Eugènie een aantal jaren geleden in contact kwam met het muzikale Duo RosaA (harp en fluit), bleken de vertellingen van Eugènie en de muziek van RosaA wonderwel bij elkaar te passen, zowel qua herkomst als qua sfeer en er was ook een persoonlijke ‘klik’.
Inmiddels heeft Eugènie een flink repertoire opgebouwd van diverse verhalen, legendes, sagen, e.d. vanuit de hele wereld. Deze verhalen hebben vaak een moraal of bevatten een wijze raad en ze kunnen ook heel humoristisch zijn.
Er is ook een speciaal repertoire geschikt voor kinderen.
Ze treedt ermee op, afgewisseld met declamatie van haar eigen gedichten, alleen of met het duo RosaA.
